A romantic story, sung and narrated through the legends of Brazilian folklore characters and traditional children's songs.
 

The story unfolds between Maria and João. Prevented from living out a great love, they run away in search of freedom. Along the way, the dreamy couple encounters various figures from Brazilian folklore, such as the charming Pink Dolphin, the lively Saci Pererê, and the warrior indigenous women of the Amazon. Maria and João also seek faith with the Negrinho do Pastoreio, are enchanted by the mermaid Iara, and feel fear in the presence of the monstrous witches from the Island of Magic.
